Branding

Festive charm

In December 2024, Fagkaup launched the Christmas initiativeGefum saman, shifting away from traditional corporate gifts to support Iceland’s search and rescue teams (ICE-SAR). Employees could direct their donation to a rescue team of their choice along with a holiday greeting. To manage the project, we created a cozy, Christmas-themed website inspired by vintage holiday cards, featuring warm colors, Christmassy fonts, and beautiful textures to evoke a heartfelt and nostalgic festive spirit.

The Santa

The Santa

When the website is opened, Björgunarsveinninn (The Search and Rescue Santa) welcomes you. A friendly, generous and warm-hearted lad. The character is dressed in a classic Santa Claus costume with features from the ICE-SAR outfits and drawn in a vintage style that matches the overall look and feel of the brand.

Process

Designing Santa

Björgunarsveinninn was created as a unique costume for Fagkaup’s annual Christmas party, where Santa made an appearance to entertain guests. The design aimed to blend the classic look of Santa Claus with recognizable elements from ICE-SAR uniforms. The red costume features a red hat with a reflective patch, reinforced elbows and knees, hiking boots, and a backpack. Instead of a belt, a climbing rope is tied around the waist. Developed in collaboration with ICE-SAR, the design ensured the costume remained distinct from official rescue gear.

The website

The tech side

This simple web application was built very light weight, skipping complicated backends and content management systems: A barebone html page, mongodb and retool for a basic moderation dashboard, that’s it!

The impact

The response was incredible, with 1,449 participants and heartfelt messages reaching every rescue team in Iceland. In just a few hours, over 1,000 greetings were sent, highlighting the campaign’s powerful impact. By reducing unnecessary holiday spending and instead supporting essential rescue efforts, the initiative reflects Fagkaup’s strong commitment to social responsibility. We’re proud to have played a role in bringingGefum samanto life through thoughtful design and development, and we hope it becomes a meaningful annual tradition.
